I Want, I Need, I Have to Have: Chandelier

… if only I didn’t live in an apartment.

Soooo, I’m back in class… well, I have been for about 6 weeks now (half way done with this session, WOO to the HOO! But who’s counting? Is it August yet?) Moving on, one of the classes I’m talking right now is Lighting. This is my favorite class this year for a couple reasons…

  1. It’s taught by my favorite IDI teacher
  2. Our first assignment involved making a collage and I freaking ROCK at making collages. I could Master in collages, you know if that sort of thing was ever offered.
  3. It’s filled with a lot of my “school friends”

Anywhoodle, the project I’m working on right now (due next Monday, freaking out a little bit) is lighting for a residence in a high-rise condo building. While researching lights for my project I’ve come across quite a few I wish I could hang in our apartment. Sadly, we aren’t allowed to hang anything from the ceiling… let a lone rewire things. It’s bull shite, I know! I would just temporarily replace to light above our dining table, but it’s a ceiling fan… a) where the hack would I temporarily hide a ceiling fan in a one bedroom apartment and b) as ugly as a ceiling fan is above your dining table, it really helps get air moving through the place in the summer.

Here are the lights I covet, with my imaginary residence... with my imaginary budget.

1 – The Caboche Chandelier by Foscarini

Caboche
2 – The Le Soleil Pendant Lamp, also by Foscarini

3 - Opaline Happy Kiss Light by Caleb Siemon

4 - Logico Triple Nested Suspension by Artemide

5 - Annika Chandelier by Oly

Is your decor stifled by your apartment restrictions? What do you wish you could add?

Oooh I'll take that first one, please!

We live in an apartment and can't do anything either. I *really* want to paint but alas, not allowed.

I really like that last one! We had apartment restictions at our last place but B ignored them. We went ahead and changed out our lighting when we moved in and just put the original lighting back in when we moved out. Don't be bullied by the stupid codes they never enforce ;-)

I'm in the opposite situation — since we own our condo, we could do practically anything we want to it (apart from the common spaces) but we haven't done ANYTHING to it, aside from adding furniture, since moving in 2.5 years ago. All the lights, wall colors, EVERYTHING are the same. Wow, we are soooo lazy... :-P

@Em - Bummer, that you can't even paint. We *are* allowed to do that, we just have to paint it back when we leave or lose part of our deposit.

@Peaches - I totally thought about how you replaced your light in your old place when I wrote this post and I'd totally do light in ours but the only light we could replace is the fan above our dining table, which we need.

@Geek - We painted our dining room before we were fully moved in. We're nutty like that ;-)

I have so many things I'd love to do if we didn't live in an apartment... numbers one and two would be painting and getting a dog. :) neither are allowed, unfortunately, although if we live in this complex for two years, they will paint one wall for us. yay...
