Easy Peasy: Fruit Pizza

Last Friday Hubs and I went to dinner at our friends house. The same couple we used to have LOST night with, so we’re used to splitting up the dinner responsibilities. We used to trade off who made the main course, and the other would make the salad or a veggie, etc. This Friday we brought a salad and a dessert.

I totally volunteered for this dessert thinking I would just make another blueberry crumble, but we still have half a blueberry crumble in our fridge and I felt super guilty wasting all that fruit making another one…. also felt I could just take over our leftovers haha.

I couldn’t think of anything else to make that didn’t involve fruit and crumble or baking a cake (which I did NOT have time for). So, I asked put the question out on Twitter and got a couple great suggestions. My favorite was from Amy at Dandelion Paperweight

I was already kinda thinking of making a galette*, but all the recipes for the crust seemed too time consuming. Pizza? Pizza, I could cheat and buy premade dough for and call it a night! Thank. You. Amy!

I’m not gonna lie, I’m sort of proud of this recipe because I didn’t use a recipe, it’s super easy and UBER tasty!

How to make it…

* I don't technically know what a galette is, so this could very well be one.

Brainstromy Sketches

My next project in my Lighting class involves designing a lighting fixture for a commercial space. I’m supposed to bring a sketch in tonight. I have no idea who my client is for this project. No idea. But, here are a few sketches of me working through the design.

I know, back-up Picasso! I think the final design with incorporate 2 of these elements. The bird cage and the drum light ooorrr something totally different. My office space where I work is pretty boring so I'm alway trying to add a bit of whimsy to call my commercial projects. We'll see where this ends up.

Blueberry Crumble

It’s berry season, just in case you haven’t noticed. Berry Season is one of my favorite seasons… it’s probably one of the tastiest! For the past few weeks I’ve been adding strawberries, blueberries and blackberries to pretty much everything I can. French toast? Check. Salad? Check. Pie? Check. Cereal? Of course!

Earlier this week Hubs was eyeing a blueberry crumble pie at Trader Joes. I get a little miffed when we wants to buy store bought pie (and such) because HELLO I can totally make that! So I promised him I’d make him crumble sometime.

Well, “sometime” was last night. I really wanted to cook something new and Hubs already had Trader Joe’s salmon burger for dinner. Best not to waste food we already had, so I decided to make the crumble. I went to my favorite go-to recipe site, Cooking Light, and found a recipe for Rainier Cherry Crumble. I decided I would substitute berries for the cherries since I wasn’t in the mood to pit 3 pounds of cherries.

How do you make this gooey crumbly berry goodness?

For the berries I used 2 of those plastic things of blueberries and a bunch of leftover blackberries and strawberries. You can probably use any fruit you want. I think next time I'm going to do peaches and blueberries... YUM!

Do you ever get miffed when your husband/wife wants to buy something at the store you can make at home 10 times better? Am I the only weirdo?

I Want, I Need, I Have to Have: Tile

… or another reason why I love Barbara Barry.

I came across another reason to move out of our apartment this afternoon. One of my favorite ‘eye candy’ site’s Retro Renovation posted about these awesome Starburst Tiles from Ann Sacks and Barbara Barry.

They come in singe, offset, double, triple and quad; and if I could retile our bathroom I would by them right now!

Hubs and I LOVE mid-century modern design. I know, who doesn’t these days? I would tell you we liked it before it was so cool, but I don’t know exactly when it started being so cool… lets just say more than 5 years. It was one of the things we had in common when we started dating. Hubs is obsessed with all things “Atomic Starburst”.

Example 1

Example 2
He’s so obsessed I tried to buy him a complete set of Eames Starburst Black Composite Stainless Silverware for his birthday, from a vintage shop near his old apartment.

Sadly, I got there a day too late.

So, I got some requests to do more posts on my Interior Design school projects... is that something a lot of you would be interested in?

I Want, I Need, I Have to Have: Chandelier

… if only I didn’t live in an apartment.

Soooo, I’m back in class… well, I have been for about 6 weeks now (half way done with this session, WOO to the HOO! But who’s counting? Is it August yet?) Moving on, one of the classes I’m talking right now is Lighting. This is my favorite class this year for a couple reasons…

  1. It’s taught by my favorite IDI teacher
  2. Our first assignment involved making a collage and I freaking ROCK at making collages. I could Master in collages, you know if that sort of thing was ever offered.
  3. It’s filled with a lot of my “school friends”

Anywhoodle, the project I’m working on right now (due next Monday, freaking out a little bit) is lighting for a residence in a high-rise condo building. While researching lights for my project I’ve come across quite a few I wish I could hang in our apartment. Sadly, we aren’t allowed to hang anything from the ceiling… let a lone rewire things. It’s bull shite, I know! I would just temporarily replace to light above our dining table, but it’s a ceiling fan… a) where the hack would I temporarily hide a ceiling fan in a one bedroom apartment and b) as ugly as a ceiling fan is above your dining table, it really helps get air moving through the place in the summer.

Here are the lights I covet, with my imaginary residence... with my imaginary budget.

1 – The Caboche Chandelier by Foscarini

2 – The Le Soleil Pendant Lamp, also by Foscarini

Le Soleil
3 - Opaline Happy Kiss Light by Caleb Siemon

4 - Logico Triple Nested Suspension by Artemide

5 - Annika Chandelier by Oly

Is your decor stifled by your apartment restrictions? What do you wish you could add?
