A Friday Find

About 3 years ago I discovered Sauvignon Blanc. You guys I was 27 and I finally discovered sauvignon blanc! Now, it's my favorite type of wine. I love reds, especially spicy ones, and a good chardonnay, but sauvignon blanc is my favorite.

The first SB I tried was Kim Crawford, I loved the acidity and the grassiness. However, Kim isn’t always cheap enough for me to buy all the time… you know when you’re paying $300 for presentation boards at school, it adds up. Well, Memorial Day I discovered Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc.

I honestly felt silly buying a bottle of wine with the word “Cupcake” on it, like it was saying, “Hahaha SUCKER! You’re such a girl, buying a bottle of wine because it has a cupcake on it.” I kinda wanted to defend myself to the bottle, “No, that’s not it! It was you or the Two Buck Chuck, and I was trying to not bring cheap wine to my friends house.” Well, this wine with the little cupcake on it surprised me! It is as good as the Kim Crawford and a few bucks cheaper. I have another bottle sitting in the fridge right now for Wine Friday :)

What is your favorite wine?

Mmmmm, wine Friday. Wine is the one thing I've missed the most since being pregnant. My favorite is Barefoot Pinot Grigio (I have a bottle chilling in the fridge ready for the day I get home from the hospital with baby!!).

Do you have World Market out there? I was there yesterday and Cupcake wines are 10% off when you buy 4 bottles - and the SB was also further discounted from its usual price!

Come to our house, we have a few cases of SB!! Our new favorite grape is Albarino- from Spain and Portugal. So yummy and also great prices. Try it. If you don't like it, I'll send you a bottle of SB.

@Jamie - Mmmmm I like Barefoot PG too. I hope Baby Girl comes soon, so you can celebrate!

@Stephanie - THANK YOU! I'll have to go there tomorrow :) YAY!

@Sugar - I wish you lived closer and we could have wine dates :) I'll try the Albarino and let you know.

Ok, so I know I'm on the east coast and my wine selection/availability/prices might be different, but I'm going to go ahead and suggest a few I assumed you'd be able to find (and are easy on the wallet):
*Angeline Sauvignon Blanc (their Pinot Noir is also one of my faves) - $12.99 here
*Anakena Sauvignon Blanc - (there are 3 different ones: Indo $9.99, SB10 $7.99, and single vineyard 09 - $11.99; I've only had single vineyard, and it is lovely) - from Chile

And, I know these ones aren't SB, but some of my new favorites are:
*Dominican Oaks' Unoaked Chardonnay - $12.99. It is perfect for summer, and almost has a touch of effervescence
*Phebus Torrontes (from Argentina) - $9.99. This one is Justin's new favorite

Ok, I could keep giving wine suggestions for the girl on a budget all night, but I'll stop myself :)

I'm a pinot noir girl, myself. I'm glad this cupcake stuff is good. I saw it at the liquor store and almost bought some, but then I was thinking "am I just buying this because it says cupcake?". Great minds!

My biggest complaint about moving to Colorado is that grocery stores (including World Market and Whole Foods) are not allowed to sell wine (or any liquor with a certain % alcohol). It totally bums me out. Also, there are no big chain liquor stores like BevMo.

I've seen this in stores and wanted to try it! Glad to know it's as tasty as it sounds, I'll pick it up next time I see it!

I've totally bought Cupcake wine before, and loved it! I was already slightly embarrassed to be buying that brand (for the reason you mentioned!) but what made it worse? I went to the bakery in my grocery store, whilst holding the Cupcake wine, to buy myself a treat. What did I pick from behind the glass case? A cupcake. So naturally, the bakery worker commented "WOWWWWW! YOU MUST LOVE CUPCAKES, HEY? Cupcake wine AND a CUPCAKE? HOW PERFECT!" very loudly. Very, very loudly. I turned about 5 shades of red and slunk away. :)

I love Cupcake wine! Danny turned me onto it when he served at the Four Seasons. It was frequently requested there and he knew I'd fall for the name- like any girly wine drinker ;)
