Everyone who answered said the same thing - Before.
I'm also trying to get better at my pictures, but let's be honest I BLOW at taking pictures of my food. Any suggestions? I use Macro or the little flower setting... I've tried a bunch of different settings to get the best picture. New camera? New camera operator?

I have no tips for you, my camera has a "Cuisine" setting that always seems to work so I leave it at that. I'm definitely no photographer.
lots of lighting. open the shades and turn on all the lights, the more the better. and I think you're on track with the macro/flower setting.
Turn off the flash!
Here's some tips that I've found helpful:

Always (if you can) use sunlight..natural light rocks!
Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I need to figure out how to turn the flash off on my camera and I have a bunch of left over white cardboard from school projects, so I think I'm going to try to build a box(ish) thing :)
